On a husband's day off, you might:
Sleep in a little later than you meant to
Make a delicious mexican (Whole30 sanctioned) breakfast
... with extra cilantro
Hang some curtains
Take some measurements for a future IKEA trip
Wander outside because someone needs outfit pictures
& then just keep wandering around the neighborhood
Pick out the buildings with the biggest windows & pretend you can afford to buy them
Pet all the pups you see walking past you on the sidewalk
Stumble across a tiny juice shop with the most colorful patio
Order iced coffee anyway while your husband talks juice-talk with the owner
Somehow end up at the grocery store, buying allll the fruit
Head home & make smoothie popsicles

We already can't believe how much time we spent apart this spring/summer,
but at the same time, can't believe how fast it went...
aaaand at the same time, are so so elated to be back together, hand in hand.
He's just my favorite.

Happy Friday, everyone!

a little monday

we snuck off this morning for a teeny date before husband headed off to work for the rest of the day, & I brought the camera since I was feeling just a liiiittle bit guilty about not posting a sunday best yesterday. I drank some toffee something-something. he drank 4 shots of espresso to get him through the day. he told me I looked pretty. I told him not to go to work. but in the end, we parted ways like responsible adults & I went grocery shopping while he rode off in the opposite direction to bring home bacon & whatnot.

it's a good life, even if it's a busy one. I am loved.

iphone does: town point park

now that I've joined the iphone cult, uhhhhh... club... I'm trying to figure out how to balance the how-much-iphone-is-too-much-iphone in the land of blog. but it's midnight, & I have wedding festivities for darling sara + daniel starting early tomorrow am, so phone photos it is.

we don't really love the area we live in, but the "city" (being norfolk) has some plus sides. it sits on the water's edge of the elizabeth river, which I like to close my eyes & pretend is like hitting the edge of the hudson in nyc. only it smells a tad better here & you're much more likely to see a disney cruiseliner than a scenic ny skyline. we had some norfolk errands on monday & had lunch in the park on the water's edge. these first two weeks of may never disappoint with their choice of weather.

norfolk, we may not love you, but if you were a person, we'd probably invite you over for dinner at least once.

walkin' my babies home

yesterday's date came in the form of taking my parents' dogs
(who are also our adopted puppies for the time being)
for a long & chilly walk in the fresh air around their neighborhood.
they are sweet little furry ladies.

it's nothing short of a miracle that I'm even writing a blog post right now.
I have had the meanest couple of days of headaches & pains,
& can think of nothing better to be doing at 10:30 p.m. than closing the old macbook up
& gently placing my still-very-achey head on the nest of pillows that husby has made for me.

although, if upstairs neighbor doesn't stop the stomping,
he may come face to face with the migraine, & I can't control what the migraine might do.

heeeey, there pillow... how YOU doin'?

sundates

we decided at the beginning of the year to prioritize having a weekly date on sundays,
no matter how, um, casual? it may be.
we're taking turns planning, but this week was a joint effort, really.
he made the fort, I made breakfast for dinner,
& then we watched our only unseen wes anderson film.
it rained the entiiiire day,
which made for the perfect movie + breakfast in bed atmosphere.
it's sorta a big conspiracy that the best rainy days only occur on days
that we're both running in opposite directions to work or meetings or functions,
thank goodness for a gloomy, dreary, snuggly sunday.
it. was. perfect.

the egg concoction you're looking at?
we call 'em sloppy eggs.
it's like the omelette that didn't make the basketball team,
but then turned out to be reaaally good at fencing.

& you guys...
spend the extra $2 on your bacon selection.
we're learning that it's toooootally worth it.
(said the girl who ate a poached egg & two bites of bacon because her diet told her to.
notice there is only ONE plate of breakfast deliciousness.
wooooe is meeeee.)

but don't feel too bad for me.
today marks diet halfway point, & I feel awesome.

a braidy bunch

how I wore my hair for last night's date.
what do you think of el "braid bangs?"
(inspiration here)
it was actually super simple to do, if that encourages you at all.

some days, I am just POSITIVE that I want to chop my hair off after our bridal shoot in November,
but there's such a freedom in my long hairs & being able to do... basically anything with them.
right now, the focus is growing out my bangs, which I've given in & cut every winter.
not this year! no sirree! I'm staying strong!

I wish I had a better picture to show you,
but that camera hasn't fallen out of the sky yet,
so my little cell phone is what I'm workin' with ;)

& I apparently will not be doing any applying-mascara-tutorials any time soon.

happy saturday!

"sometimes it lasts in love"

Some polaroid photos from our evening at the symphony with Amelia & Andrew.
(Can't make up those polaroid expiration spots, folks.)
We hopped in the Cabrio... top down, of course,
& met up with my family at the annual Labor Day concert that the VA Symphony hosts in a local park.
It was a perfect double date,
with beautiful weather, bacon chocolate chip cookies and some pinot grigio on the side.

It's been a whopping SIX YEARS since I met two beautiful ladies our freshman year at GMU,
& soon after we clicked, those two boys settled into the "guy love" that I don't think anyone could have predicted...
I couldn't be happier to know these souls,
& thus far, it seems like our friendship is just getting better with age.

Amelia, Andrew, Allison & Jared... You are all  w o n d e r f u l .
Thank-you for the *almost* surprise weekend visit,
for all the laughs that maybe help work off all the food we eat (?),
& for being such wonderful, wonderful kindred spirits.
'Til next time...

"You'd know how the time flies.
Only yesterday was the time of our lives.
We were born & raised in a summer haze,
bound by the surprise of our glory days."

a chinese date

1. Hot date
2. Mojito for me, whiskey sour for him                                     3. Flourless chocolate cake - OH.MY.YUM

4. Fortune cookies with stupid fortunes

Our Sunday date night at P.F. Changs...
Which, while typical, is still somehow delicious.
I had an event that afternoon in the 178 degree weather, so by the time I got home, I was cranky and hungry.
& let me tell you... I'm a real peach when I'm hungry. ;)
& then we came home & watched stand-up comedy from the 80's for hours.
Me & my Jared.
My Jared & I.
& it was really good.
It was good to just be.

& now he's sick,
so I'm going to make him some tea.
