DIY - color block eggs

jared with his award winning "best-dyed" egg:
inspired by courtney + joy,
we took easter egg dyeing to the next level this year.
it made for a super fun evening with the little sistas,
& also made some delicious sour cream//bacon deviled eggs for our easter lunch.
yes, it was incredibly depressing to take the shells off,
but! the amaaaaazing taste made up for it. promise.

sunshine on a cloudy day

there was a crazy, thunderous downpour this evening.
which is fitting, really.
it's been one of those weeks where even though there's been actual sunshine & flowers all over the place,
it hasn't really been all sunshine & flowers.

nothing huge.
nothing ghastly.
not even anything to vent about.

okay, except that the stupid bullfrogs that live in the pond outside our bedroom window have begun mating-call-season again.
seriously, this is the symphony outside our window every. single. night.
flirty spring weather with the windows flung open all day & night has abruptly ended as of march 19th.
try to tell me not to wake up in a bad mood. no really, try.

the truth is, that it's kinda weird having a rough week when one of my "hobbies" is...
well, writing about my week.

it's life.
there are things.
happy things, sad things, annoying things.
my things.

& these things filter into different categories in blogging.
item: things to photograph
item: things to discuss
item: things to hint at
item: things to announce
item: things to write about, but not right now
item: things to never mention
item: things that weigh heavily on your heart, & sneak out even in the chirpiest of posts
item: things to revel in
item: things to boast about
item: things to reflect on

& while there is a definite level of conscious picking & choosing,
I'm here to say that even though the happy posts & photos are easiest to share...
things aren’t always chirpy.
things aren’t always bright.
but that’s refreshing & a little fantastic.
because otherwise, I may always be hoarse & sunburnt.

it's march 21st, 2012.
& I, kelsey bethune, am having a little bit of a rough week.
& here ends the complaining, from this moment forth,
because my man came home with flowers & a knowing smile,
which I consider to be sunshine on a cloudy day.

someday saturdays

[from easter 2009]

the weather is so lovely outside.
I'm dyyyying to just be out there. at the beach. at a park. somewhere. anywhere.
but jared is at work, & this past week was jam packed,
leaving a trail of laundry & general cleaning in its wake.
somehow, this is the story of every saturday.
so, I'm left with the song of the dryer & open windows,
which isn't so bad.
I even got some dirt under my fingernails this morning since I FINALLY potted our succulents.
that in & of itself is like the essence of a saturday in the spring.

but that doesn't mean that I'm not dreaming of our someday real weekends spent together,
around the house, or not around the house.
no part time jobs, or worrying about whether the downstairs neighbors are annoyed by the vacuum.
when I think about it, it smells like pledge & involves the lawn mower.

someday.
someday, someday.

if you were standing in our kitchen tonight

you would have heard this conversation:

k - anything interesting in the mail?
j - um. triple A sent us a sticker.
k - why did they send us a sticker?
j - because they're trying to win me over, & they know my weakness is stickers.
k - but we're already members of triple A.
j - well, then, I guess I won this round.
k - because you...
j - have a sticker. that's right, little wife.

so fresh so clean

meet my make-up free face!
face, internet... internet, face.
yes, I'm completely lucid,
although the faces I'm making may suggest otherwise.
I've had some pretty luh-haaame headaches this past week,
which have resulted in a "meh" approach to life in general,
& all around poo-mood.
these are celebratory yay!-no-headache-tonight! pictures.

last night's headache was the pits.
but then jared got home & asked me if I'd taken medicine,
(which I almost always have not taken because one of these days,
wallowing in self pity will someday actually have healing powers),
& then gave me meds + favorite juice.
& then got my favorite blanket.
& then tucked me into the couch.
& then turned on an episode of how I met your mother on netflix.
& then ate himself into a hummus-induced coma.
which made me laugh...
because I had no idea he was hoarding a 2 gallon vat of hummus in our fridge.
(I wasn't kidding about the costco addiction, people.)
& 3 episodes in, I started feeling a little better.
because he's the best at taking care of me.
myyyy herooo.

thanks for making me feel better, husb.

the first day of Christmas

when Jared called me on his way home from work today,
he told me he & his brother were going on an adventure to get a Christmas present for me.
I said, but Jared, haven't you already gotten my present??
genuinely surprised, but still a little twitterpated because haaaay... preseeeents.

so when I got home from work & found this sitting on the counter,
I was overjoyed & dangled it over my head,
walking around the house looking for my true love with the hottest fish-kiss face a girl can muster.

I love mistletoe. & this is year 5 that Jared has climbed a tree to get me some.
which, in turn, gets him some.
so everyone wins.

& I, the Christmas queen bee, didn't even realize that today
was the beginning of the 12 days of Christmas.
husby earned gryffindor like 6,000 points on that one.
he is thoughtful. & wonderful.

oh, & done with all his finals.
smarty pants.

rainbows & down comforters

Enjoyed a beautiful (double) rainbow tonight after a rainy, rainy day...
I had to pull the car over & whip out my silly little phone to snag some pictures,
but it was tooooo, too beautiful to not capture.

I really shouldn't be awake still.
Time to go curl up in my big down comforter & joyfully set my alarm to OFF.
Have a happy Saturday, everyone!
