In between seeing our dads, handing over cards & goodies, giving hugs & enjoying their company, I spent the majority of my day yesterday staring at this handsome guy that I get to share a someday family with. He's a good man. & he'll be an amazing dad. But also, he has impeccable style. Keeps a girl on her toes, ya know?

But also, that little golden doodle is a camera fiend.

Things that are unusual about today: 1. The weather was perfect, as opposed to in the 90's that we're used to for Memorial Day weekend. 2. We were both able to go to church this morning, instead of in 30 directions the we're used to for weekends in May. 3. Although we did take a two hour walk around town, we opted to use our day off to finish re-watching Season 3 of Arrested Development before we start on the new episodes... OBVIOUSLY a priority over the beautiful weather. Errrr...

I don't know what's happened this month on this little blog. There's a mixture in May of events at work & sneaking in as much fun things as possible on the sides, & the internet got lost in there somewhere. But I'm on the case. You know, the Mystery of Documenting Interesting Things to Share. It's a big one, but I'll solve the crime by dinner time!

monday best - post mother's day edition

 boatneck - H&M // skirt - vintage // hat - cotton on // sunnies - UO

I just realized that I'm the jerk posting outfit photos the day after Mother's Day instead of an ode to my wonderful mom & mother-in-law... plus all the other mothers in my life. & they are all wonderful. I just got so excited that I actually took outfit photos for once! Even if my hair looks slightly lifeless towards the bottom. It's fine. It's totally fine.

We got to see both of our moms & 2 out of the 4 sisters that are mothers yesterday, which is probably a record for us. It was simply perfect weather, which made for a pleasant afternoon of flower delivering & mom-hugs. I wish there was more time in the week for us to see our moms, since they both live no more than 20 minutes away from us. They are truly lovely, classy ladies. Well, lovely & classy with a touch of sass - & we respect the sass around these parts, because otherwise, we never would have made it past our first conversation all those years ago.

I had an event in the morning & one of the caterers cautiously approached & asked if I was a mother in a calculated attempt to get bonus points with the big, bad event manager. I said no, but thanks for asking. It's funny, because growing up, I was always perplexed when the couples that got married at our church reached their two year anniversary without any babies showing up. When we first started dating, I figured we'd have a baby as soon as possible after getting married. But here we are! Two & a half years in, & prayerfully fine with it being just the two of us, for now. I am so... so excited to meet our kiddos someday & pass along the sass to the next generation. But in the meantime, I'm just taking notes from our moms, our sisters & friends, while munching on all the niece & nephew cheeks that I can get my hands on.

& for the record, Jared is the one who gets baby fever in this house. I'm still stuck on puppy.

easter sunday!

Well, hey there, ya'll! Last week somehow became an avoid-eye-contact-with-the-blogger-bookmark kind of week. It's funny how those sneak up. & speaking of sneaking up, Easter popped up really quickly! It was a jam packed weekend, & I have lots (LOTS) of pictures to make up for the blog silence.

My family takes our Easter Sunday photos pretty seriously. For the last few years, it's been the family photo-op, & the color scheme planning has gotten ser-i-ous. It was downpouring aaaaall morning this Easter, so my parents' back patio replaced the typical outdoor scenery. Even with the added humidity from the rain, it was actually a perfect backdrop. So, without further ado... The Essmann Family Photo Sesh, 2013. (With some Sunday Best hiding out in the middle.)
^ Yeah, my parents are adorable. But let's talk about mom's SHOES. Blim-blam. ^

^ Voted best picture, 2013 - The Golden Doodle Photo Bomb ^

^ I ask her to be my light test & she does this. OH, OKAY. ^

^ Added a baby to this year's picture of The Girls ^
^ This dog loves having her picture taken. Like, she's smiling. ^

^ This part is so sad after all the work that goes into egg dye-ing ^
^ But then you make Sour Cream + Bacon Deviled Eggs & it's not so sad anymore ^
^ Then you get cocky & make Roasted Garlic + Chive Deviled Eggs & you're like, "What is sad?"
 ^ Mama's pretty table. ^
& we'll talk some more about those dyed eggs tomorrow. I'd also like to disclaimer that my hair is not actually THAT red, although it turns copper every single freaking time I try to go even the slightest bit darker. But gray skies & reflected light & blahhh blah blahhhh.

Gosh, this post is a little all over the place. It's a lot all over the place. But I'm watching a Cardinals game (HEYYYY BASEBALL SEASON!!!) over the top of my laptop, & then focusing the rest of my attention on not stealing cheese off of Jared's snack plate. #willpower #yearofthebridesmaid #butaaaallIwaaaaantischeeeeeeeeese

sunday best - st. patrick's day

 HIS

Today was cold. & pretty overcast. & we didn't do anything to commemorate St. Patrick's Day, even though with our family history combined, we make up, like, half a baby leprechaun. But TODAY... This glorious today... I got Jared all to myself. We enjoyed a really great brunch after church & then drove around some old neighborhoods & fake house hunted. (We're buying a really gorgeous tudor cottage AND a yellow bungalow. They're both on the water, of course.) We also watched Will Ferrell's most recent not-funny movie, buuuut it's really not worth mentioning. All in all, it was the perfect day for cold & overcast. There wasn't much more I wanted to do than spend time with my busy man.

Best part: The day isn't over. SO, BYE!
