clothes!

shirt: j. crew (christmas prezzie - thanks, mama!) | necklace: nordstrom | pants: h&m | loafers: old navy

We FAIL with all caps on the Sunday Best front these days. As if it were a thing of years gone by. Jared's just been workin' an awful lot of Sunday mornings, & I lose 1. motivation & 2. my photographer. But sweet Chelsea always has her camera at her side & took some Friday Best (ehhh, not a thiiiing...) pictures during our donut date this past weekend.

We pretty much spent the whole time trying to hide my finger bandage. Which I'm proud to say has dwindled down to a couple of band-aids after a really miserable visit to the hand specialist doctor who I'm not proud to say practically ripped the stitches out of my poor finger. Didn't even offer to buy me a drink, just made some small talk then dove right in. IT WAS AWFUL & I deserved every bite of that donut.

I'm gonna think on this style post stuff & get back to you when my better half is around to distract you with his fabulous hair & general swagger. (*salute* General Swagger.)

I leave you with this: STOP WATCHING DOWNTON ABBEY RIGHT NOW. We've cheated & already watched all of Season 3, finishing with the Christmas Special last night & I'm heartbroken when I say, OMG. IT'S TERRIBLE. Just save yourself & just say NO to Downton today. I don't know how it can redeem itself.

Other than that, this week should be great! ;)

bleachy keen, jelly bean

the thing about hair coloring at home is my pride. I am just a smidge terrified of walking into a hair salon with sunglasses on & a beanie covering my head, looking around to make sure I don't recognize anyone while the hair gods of the salon look at me with disdain. because we all know what happened. the proof would be lying underneath the stolen-from-jared's-side-of-the-closet hat. my hair would be orange & I wouldn't hardly be able to blame anyone but myself & maybe the girl on the box who was giving me bleached-blonde flirty eyes that said, "come on... you can do it... you know you wanna..."

so, I tried to highlight the tips of my hair. yeah, that trend. at home. it was a holy fumes, batman! sort of experience, that had me in tears more than once & maybe nearly ended up in chunks of hair falling off my head because I got too wrapped up in an episode of Cupcake Wars & left it on for approximately 34 minutes too long. nearly, only because there were no chunks of hair falling. yet, anyways. the rest of that was true.

the bad news is that years & years of "partial highlights" (because I'm all sorts of cheap) has left the top layer of my hair practically impenetrable in a match against a $7 box of blonde goodness. also, that I spent a total of $14 & 6 hours over the course of two days on something that, let'sbehonest, no one has noticed.

the good news is that I lightened the underneath layer of my hair draaaastically &! there is no immediate need to slink into my hair god's chair & avoid making eye contact while I tell her my carefully fabricated story about a terrible accident involving me & a truck carrying "gallons & gallons of bleach!" I definitely feel more confident going forth in my highlighting endeavors.

but mostly, I'm just more convinced to save my pennies for a trip to the professionals & their mystical hair powers. this was such a letdown of a hair revolution. the hunt for happy hair 2012 continues. sorry for the delay + letdown. total double whammy.

*50 highlighted blonde hairs to our dear friend malcolm
for (unknowingly) lending his 50mm lens to me for a day.
it was great fun.
malcolm, you can claim your prize at any point in time,
but especially if you find yourself on the floor in our bathroom.
or folding our laundry.
plenty of hairs to go around.

hairs

I'm currently doing battle with my hair. in an attempt to um, bethecheapestpersonthatIcanpossiblybe, I'm putting off a trip to hair salon for just ooooone more month. unless my hair starts falling out in clumps because of all the chemicals that are burning through it as I type. if it works, I'll tell you all about it. if it doesn't, you can admire the new hat collection that I'll be modeling.

sunday best - stag edition

it was jared's turn to miss church for an event he was working at, so here is me, myself & my parents' back yard. & yeah, my fingers are kinda in my mouth all come-hither style, but that just is what it is, folks.

happy mother's day! we were so blessed to have been able to spend lunch with my mom & to enjoy a thai dinner with his. they're pretty & wonderful & pretty wonderful ladies.I  had this elaborate "ode to the mothers in my life" post written in my head on the drive in to church this morning, but wouldn't you know that it & my motivation have both left me? maybe tomorrow. I also want to tell you all about this past weekend's wedding. jared leaves for nyc tomorrow morning, so I'll probably buy a lb. of twizzlers & blog my little heart out while How I Met Your Mother keeps me company on netflix. it's like I'm always trying to tell you people, I AM FANCY.

edit // turns out it was a Golden Girls marathon on WE that kept me company. even fancier.

fairfax avenue

it's been another sweeeeet day off. having mondays off is maybe one of the best perks of the event season. seriously, sneaking around the city while everyone else works, enjoying stores without the weekend hubbub & laughing while watching traffic from our window because I'mmm noooot sittingggg in ittttt. although, while we were playing in norfolk, I SHOULD have dragged my bum out to the beach to get some more sun. girlfriend's legs are still quite... waxen.

so, this is my event season substitute for our "sunday best" series. I had to leave halfway through the service yesterday to head out to an event, which is sadly not an uncommon occurrence between april & november. but we're having a little too much fun with our ridiculous photo shoots, so commence "casual weekday attire mondays!"... not nearly as catchy. whatever, series titles are LAME, anyways.

p.s. now accepting canon lens donations. you know, if you're feeling giving & whatnot.

sunday best

& the best of the sunday best:

I gotta tell ya...
I think we were both a little more awake this morning as we got ready for church
knowing that we had these pictures to take after the service.
but it is totally fun, especially when it's not raining outside.
Jared says this is his "500 days of summer" look,
& wants me to tell you that I "Joseph Gordon LOVE-itt."
...

OSCAR SUNDAY, GUYS!!!
I am a little excited, since my boss & I have tried to watch as many of the best picture nominees as possible.
SADLY, of all the movies that I think I'd love the most,
I haven't watched 'the artist' yet! so so sad.
alas, it's my turn for our sundate after our financial class at church tonight,
which I may value a little bit more than watching an award show.

... although, I bet ice-cream & the oscars would make for a pretty good date.

hmm.

sunday best

you may remember back in my 2011 review post that I mentioned the "sunday best" photo series we started to do last spring.
it was short lived, as we were camera-less & the phone camera wasn't really cutting it.
also, I skip church a lot for events in the summer & let's not kid ourselves...
work attire at an outdoor event venue in the south is way more sweaty than cute.

we both really like to look nice for church, & always have.
for me, it was an insistence on my hair being sponge curled on saturday night,
& I have it on good authority from my mother in law that Jared liked to dress up for church even as a little tike...
like, crocodile tears if he didn't get to wear his little clip-on bow tie.
some things don't change - although he has upgraded from the clip-on ;)

there's a few reasons that this post is embarrassing.
one - neither of us were altogether excited about what we wore to church today, but we remembered to take pictures, so I'm following through.
two - auto ISO = blown the heck out photo. whateeeever. apologies, & if you're wondering, my skirt is teal.
three - welcome to our dining room? awkward. but it was POURING outside today. options were limited.
four - if this sticks, I'm quite positive I'll look back at our "first" & go all red like, ughhh, what were we thinking.

but here we are.
in our sunday best.
& on the rare rainy sunday that is the perfect weather for movies & soup & cuddling,
it really was one of the best yet.
